As we move through August, our business community is continuing to show their incredible resilience, adaptability, and ambition. This time of year is often one of reflection and momentum, where businesses take stock of their achievements so far and set their sights on the opportunities that lie ahead. At GSBN, we are committed to supporting that journey by creating spaces for collaboration, ensuring members are informed about the changes shaping our industries, and opening doors to new possibilities both locally and on a larger scale.
Each month, our network demonstrates the power of connection – whether its celebrating local achievements, navigating regulatory updates, or exploring opportunities to expand into new markets, GSBN exists to make those pathways easier, bringing together resources, events, and advocacy so our members and community can focus on what they do best: running strong, successful businesses.
In this edition, you’ll find important reminders about the 2025 Greater Shepparton SPC Business Excellence Awards, exclusive member access to major trade events (if you’re a GSBN member!), as well as key regulatory updates and upcoming opportunities.
Our August After 5 Networking Event was a fantastic evening of connection, conversation, and community spirit. Hosted at Barbeques Galore Shepparton, guests enjoyed a warm welcome from owners Jason and Michelle, who generously opened their doors to showcase their impressive range of products and share their business journey.
The evening brought together a great mix of local business owners, professionals, and community members, all eager to expand their networks and strengthen relationships. Attendees enjoyed delicious catering (cooked in-store on Weber and Gozney products), friendly hospitality, and the chance to explore the store’s offerings, from premium barbeques to outdoor living essentials.
Our monthly networking events continue to be a valuable platform for fostering meaningful connections within the Greater Shepparton business community.
A special thank you to Jason, Michelle, and the team at Barbeques Galore Shepparton for being such generous and welcoming hosts, and to everyone who came along and contributed to another successful event. We look forward to seeing you all again next month!

CANTON FAIR 2025 TRADE MISSION
As global supply chains shift and evolve, the Canton Fair remains the world’s most powerful platform for sourcing, partnerships, and innovation. Officially known as the China Import and Export Fair, it is the largest and most influential trade exhibition in China, connecting businesses with over 60,000 booths across three massive phases.
But here’s the catch – navigating the Canton Fair alone can be overwhelming. The scale, the cultural nuances, and the language barriers can make it difficult to get the most out of the experience. That’s where your membership gives you a game-changing advantage.
Through a special partnership, GSBN Members now have VIP access via the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) – unlocking tailored support, expert insights, and the connections you need to succeed.
✅ Export China advisers and on-the-ground support from VCCI’s Shanghai office
✅ Vetted suppliers, risk management, and seamless logistics handled for you
✅ Exclusive access to Chinese business networks, chambers, and associations
✅ Bilingual guidance and cultural insights for smooth, confident business dealings
✅ A structured, stress-free itinerary so you can focus on opportunities, not obstacles
This is an unmatched opportunity to explore new markets, secure long-term supply chain growth, and gain insights you simply won’t find anywhere else.
But remember – this VIP experience is only available to GSBN and VCCI members. If you’re serious about taking your business global, you won’t want to miss out.

From 1 July 2025, a range of important updates to wages, tax thresholds, compliance requirements, and business costs came into effect across Victoria. These changes may directly impact how you pay your staff, manage cash flow, handle regulatory obligations, and plan for the year ahead.
Whether you’re a small business owner, an employer managing a team, or a sole trader keeping on top of your own obligations, it’s essential to understand what’s now in place, especially as some adjustments require immediate action to remain compliant.
The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has published a comprehensive summary outlining all of the changes in detail, including what’s new for payroll, superannuation, energy bill support, skilled migration, apprenticeships, and government fees.
