The Federal Government has three clear IR objectives including creating: an economy that works for everyone, better working conditions, and safe workplaces.
The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs , Better Pay) Act 2022 introduced significant changes to enterprise bargaining, pay secrecy and fixed term contracting. Changes are expected to continue with a focus on redefining casual employment, introducing a national labour hire scheme, a federal form of wage theft, and the controversial ‘same job, same pay’ policy. Our General Manager, Workplace Relations and Wellbeing, Amy Bell, will provide a short informative update covering:
- Labor’s IR agenda and policy commitments
- A summary of key changes introduced by the Secure Jobs, Better Pay Act
- A summary of the Closing Loopholes Bill
Followed by a roundtable discussion, giving you the opportunity to discuss:
- What the changes means for you and your business
- How the changes may impact your staffing strategy
- What major challenges your business is facing, and the support you need to succeed

Members Only Christmas Event
And that’s a wrap for GSBN events and a big 2023!
It was wonderful to have more than 40 members join us to mark the start of the festive season at our Members Christmas Event at the Last Straw on Wednesday.
We can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store!
GSBN Presidents Christmas Message
It is with a great deal of satisfaction and excitement we reflect on an amazing year of transformation for Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry as we transitioned to the Greater Shepparton Business Network (GSBN). Our vision in undergoing these transformations is to deliver a forum for all business across Greater Shepparton no matter your size or Industry, to share in the benefits of a diverse, connected, business community. To assist in delivering such a dynamic business network, we have entered a unique partnership with the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) enabling our GSBN members to draw on a wealth of business and employee development and training resource, in addition to professional HR advice and support, in our rapidly evolving business environment.
Without question the highlights of 2023 have been the highly popular GSBN Member Networking events. The interaction between business owners whilst listening to the journey of fellow Greater Shepparton businesses, has been a great launching pad for new relationships and business opportunities. In 2023 we’ve gathered at numerous GSBN Business premises, FOOT Waste, Cardamone Real Estate, BBQs Galore, OPTUS Business Centre, GOUGE factory and the Last Straw. All very unique businesses across our dynamic community where GSBN members have enthusiastically gathered to enjoy fellowship, share stories, hardships, opportunities, and ideas.
We acknowledge that for many of our members the Christmas trading period is of great importance to your business profitability, especially our retail-oriented members. The GSBN board will continue to advocate with Greater Shepparton City Council to deliver quality marketing support and resources to all communities within Greater Shepparton in this peak Retail event. In Shepparton we are proud to have negotiated with COGS to provide free timed parking for the months of December and January. This is on top of the year-round free off street timed parking aimed at encouraging local and regional shoppers to visit and spend time in our thriving business centre. As traders within Greater Shepparton, we share a responsibility to put our best foot forward and present our individual business with positive energy and enthusiastically to provide a memorable shopping experience for the broader community. If we each take ownership of our patch and ensure the shop front is clean and tidy and our staff are positively engaged, we are half way there.
On behalf of the GSBN board, we take this opportunity to wish you, your staff, and your families a very prosperous festive season and a happy and safe new year.
